Pennsylvania nonprofit finds mortality declines, but readmissions increased

The overall patient mortality rate for the 20 conditions consistently reported in 2002 through 2008 decreased significantly, falling from 5.1% in 2002 to 4.2% in 2008, according to the state's annual Hospital Performance Report released today by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4).

Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority releases annual report

In its 2008 report about patient safety practices in the state of Pennsylvania, The Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority (PPSA) has seen some improvement among the five domains it measured, but says there is still room for bettering patient safety leadership and reporting practices.

PA hospitals post improved mortality rates, increased readmission rates

According to the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4), overall patient mortality rate for conditions reported over a four-year period decreased, falling from 4.6% in 2004 to 4.2% in 2007. Readmission rates increased slightly over a three-year period from 18.6% in 2005 to 18.7% in 2007.
