Resident participation slightly increases complication rate and slightly lowers mortality rate
Participation of residents in procedures including general surgery, vascular surgery, pancreatectomy or esophagectomy, and colorectal resections is associated with slightly higher rates of complications, but slightly lower mortality rates, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
