AARP's Public Policy Institute, The Commonwealth Fund, and The SCAN Foundation have released a State Long-Term Services and Supports Scorecard , which measures state-level performance of long-term services and supports systems that provide assistance to older people and adults with disabilities.

The report assesses states’ performance in four areas of long term care: affordability and access; choice of setting and provider; quality of life and quality of care; and support for family caregivers.

Key findings from the report:

• Even in top performing states, including Minnesota and Washington, there is room for improvement.
• Many states that scored in the bottom quartile are in the South, and have the lowest median income and highest poverty and disability rates.
• Many of the top performing states have public policies in place that increase access to services while many bottom performing states do not.
