Ten percent of hospitals ready to meet all Meaningful Use Requirements

A survey by HIMSS Analytics has found that ten percent of U.S. Hospitals are ready to meet all 14 core measures required for Stage 1 of the meaningful use requirements, according to an article in Health Data Management. 

The article states that other key findings from the survey include:

• An additional 31 percent of hospitals are ready to meet 10 or more core measures and at least five menu measures.
• Hospitals that had the greater likelihood to meet the Stage 1 meaningful use criteria tended to be academic medical centers.
• Hospitals in the western mountain region are slower to adopt health information technology than other regions.

One drawback of the study is that survey responders were more likely to be IT adopters, while the industry average for adoption is only 4.1 percent, according to Health Data Management.
