Cleveland Clinic lowers employee health costs

The Cleveland Clinic has successfully reduced healthcare costs for its employees, according to Cleveland.com.

According to the article, the Clinic, which has over 40,000 employees has managed to flatten health care costs for employees, with many not paying a premium increase for the past two years.  The initiative, which includes checkups with doctors, chronic disease management programs, and free access to a gym and weight watchers, began as a cost saving plan, and has also improved the health of many employees.

Since the program began, gym usage has increased from 21,000 hours annually to more than 240,000 hours.  Almost 50% of employees are enrolled in a program to manage disease – that is compared to 15% nationally.  The Clinic also encourages healthy eating and no smoking.
